The Preeminent Classical & Contemporary Ballet Company in the State of New Jersey
American Repertory Ballet, founded in 1954, is an organization dedicated to bringing the joy, beauty and discipline of classical and contemporary dance to audiences and students through artistic and educational program. The organization consists of American Repertory Ballet Company - the preeminent classical and contemporary ballet company in the state; Princeton Ballet School, the official school of the American Repertory Ballet - one of the largest and well respected non-profit dance schools in the nation; and ARB's Access and Enrichment initiatives - including the long running and acclaimed DANCE POWER program.
The company, now in its 38th season is led by Company Director Douglas Martin, presents a large array of dance ranging from the 19th and 20th century classics to contemporary ballet works. The school, under the direction of Mary Pat Robertson, offers classes in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, Pilates and World Dance, and enrolls approximately 1500 students in its three locations in New Brunswick, Princeton and Cranbury. Alums of the school are regularly accepted into prestigious training programs and major dance companies around the world. ARB's Access and Enrichment programs consist of DANCE POWER, a 26 year collaboration with the New Brunswick Board of Education, which brings dance to every third grade student in New Brunswick as part of their physical education curriculum and reaches almost 900 students annually; DANCE POWER Scholars, a scholarship program for talented students selected from the DANCE POWER classes who are able to study dance on full scholarship at Princeton Ballet School through high school; Educational Assemblies, School Time Matinees and the new "On Pointe" community enrichment series.
