Monument Square Park

Since 1894, a small triangular plot of land in City Center has been home to a monument honoring the thousands of lives lost in the American Civil War. Located at the heart of New Brunswick's Theater District, Monument Square serves as a center piece for City Center, beautifully framed by the Heldrich Hotel, theaters, and popular restaurants. New Brunswick's Holiday Tree Lighting, New Year's Eve Fireworks, and the Central Jersey Jazz Festival are just a few of the popular community events held at Monument Square.

For most of the year, this park simply serves as a small oasis to take a break, meet a friend, or simply enjoy a coffee and people watch. A directional sign post at Monument Square indicates the direction and distances to New Brunswick's global sister cities: Tsuruoka, Japan,  Debercen, Hungary, Fukui, Japan, and Limerick County, Ireland.
