Rutgers takes down Miami in Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights emerged triumphant in the highly anticipated Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl game at Yankee Stadium on December 28, 2023. The clash showcased the Scarlet Knights as they battled against Miami in a memorable gridiron showdown in front of a crowd of over 35,000 fans.

Rutgers received the opening kickoff and turned their first possession into a 75-yard scoring drive. The Rutgers offense, led by quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, executed well-crafted plays that kept the Miami defense on their toes throughout the first half and maintained a 14-10 lead going into halftime.

Miami scored first after halftime, giving them their first lead of the day at 17-14, but a blocked punt by Rutgers DB Trevor Yeboah-Kodie was recovered by DB Timmy Ward in the end zone for a touchdown and Rutgers regained the lead once again.

Rutgers went up 28-17 with 11:51 left on the clock in the fourth quarter and although Miami added a late touchdown, it was not enough, as Rutgers held on to secure victory with a final score of 31-24.

The win marked program’s sixth bowl championship under head coach, Greg Schiano, and its second victory in the Pinstripe bowl.

RB Kyle Monangai was named the game’s MVP after he finished with 25 carries for 163 yards and a touchdown. LB Deion Jennings led the defense with nine tackles and one for loss. LB Mohamed Toure added eight tackles, two tackles-for-loss and a sack, while freshman LB Abram Wright got his first career interception.
