A gallery that has been working to unify the art community in the city and beyond since 2010 will unveil this week an exhibition showcasing a diverse array of oil paintings and mixed-media art.
The other artists whose work will be featured include Alexander Volkov, Deirdre Sheean, Kristen Martin-Aarnio, Mark de Mos, Melissa Shainker, Patricia Hynes, Zhiyao Zhang, Caridad Sierra Kennedy, Steven Patton, Laura Beard, Cynthia Pareja Dubin, and John Gummere.
Alfa Art Gallery is a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes the work of emerging and established artists and whose stated mission is to uplift artists by providing an open and innovative environment. It receives the assistance of grants from organizations such as Amboy Bank, Magyar Bank, Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick City Center, Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Pfizer.
“Beyond the Brush: The Contemporary Imagination” will run through Aug. 28. It is free and open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the gallery at 108 Church Street.
A virtual opening reception is planned for May 19 from 6:30-9 p.m.
Alfa Art Gallery’s “Beyond the Brush: The Contemporary Imagination” will open Tuesday, April 26.
The exhibition will highlight the work of talented artists such as Suparna Mondal, whose colorful and kinetic abstract works reveal her experiences of the contemporary urban world, Bonnie McGown, who uses oil paint to capture the beauties of the natural world, and Christine Seo, whose intriguing oil canvases that feature the recurring motif of a horse against colorful abstract backgrounds to express her own unique worldview.
