Volunteers Clean Up New Brunswick's Boyd Park

This past Saturday, 68 volunteers cleaned up Elmer B. Boyd Park in New Brunswick in honor of Earth Day.

Thirty-nine employees came from SHI, a global IT provider headquartered in New Brunswick. They partnered with volunteers from The WeLoveU Foundation and New Brunswick city employees to pick up waste, decorate trash bins and remove graffiti. They also planted trees and wildflower seeds to encourage flower growth in the park.

Thanks to their combined efforts, the volunteers removed 41 bags of trash and 18 bags of recycling from Boyd Park.

The WeLoveU Foundation has more than a decade of experience in coordinating diverse beach, park, and street cleanups.

In 2021, New Jersey parks saw an increase in the dumping and littering of disposable gloves and used masks, according to Clean Ocean Action. However, more than 70 percent of the trash in NJ parks is from single-use plastics such as food wrappers, bottles, caps, and shopping bags.

SHI International Corp. provides the tech services for more than 15,000 corporate, enterprise, public sector, and academic customer organizations around the world. With over 5,000 employees worldwide, SHI is the largest minority- and woman-owned business enterprise (MWBE) in the U.S. It is owned by Thai Lee, a Thai-born Korean American billionaire businesswoman.

"SHI's employees have always been proud to partner with organizations like the WeLoveU Foundation, who are working to improve the lives of our global community," said Danielle Cadet, Microsoft licensing advisor at SHI.
